The five rules every template below follows.
Template 1: the short ask (best default)
Subject: Quick favor, [First name]? Hi [First name], You have been using [Product] for [time period], and your note about [specific result] made our week. Would you share that as a short testimonial? It takes about two minutes: write a few sentences or record a quick video, whichever is easier. [Your collection link] Honest feedback is what we want, good or bad. Thank you either way. [Your name]
Template 2: after a win
Subject: Congrats on [their result] - one small ask Hi [First name], Seeing [specific result, e.g. "your team close the quarter 20% up"] is exactly why we built [Product]. Would you be open to a 2-minute video testimonial about what changed? Future customers trust hearing it from you far more than from us. You can record right in your browser here: [Your collection link] If you would rather write it, that works too. And if the answer is no, no follow-up from me. [Your name]
Template 3: the one follow-up
Subject: Re: Quick favor, [First name]? Hi [First name], Floating this back up once, then I will leave it alone. A short testimonial, written or on video, would mean a lot: [Your collection link] Two minutes, honest words, and my thanks. [Your name]
Template 4: with an incentive (disclosed, not conditioned)
Subject: A thank-you for your honest words Hi [First name], We are collecting honest testimonials from customers, the balanced kind, not just the glowing kind. As a thank-you for your time, we will send a [gift card / discount] for any testimonial you submit, whatever it says. [Your collection link] The thank-you is for your time, never for a positive review. Say what is true. [Your name]
Using an incentive? The testimonial must disclose it wherever it appears, and you may not condition it on positive sentiment. See our FTC testimonial compliance checklist.
